Crater Life by LeashaHooker Crater Life by LeashaHooker
Many of us remember when Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1980, today the crater is a site to see, new growth is everywhere but to see the valley and the changes in the landscape it created is humbling. More info here [link]

This is why I love photography.

I've been there this summer.  Pretty cool when you look into the crater with binoculars and can see the individual vents smoking and steaming.

Simply gorgeous! I love the contrast between death and life (and the fact that life is slowly making its way back up what's left of the mountain). And those clouds really add drama to the whole scene. While they don't look like ash clouds from the eruption, their color is dark enough to cast an ominous tone to the piece... and yet, the bright sunniness of the foreground, the lively colors of the flowers seem to hold the clouds back.

Ah, this makes me regret even more that I missed an opportunity to visit this place about a decade ago (ran short of time on a vacation). I shall definitely add it to my 'bucket list' of places to visit!

If you look closely, you can actually see the new lava dome building up in the middle of the older crater.
